Roy Cosme

Roy Cosme created Arcos Communications in 1996, as the result of a successful independent public relations consulting practice started in 1994. As a consultant, he worked on new business development and client campaigns for a variety of Latino public relations and advertising agencies in New York City. In this capacity, he managed projects for such clients as Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., Pathmark and the New York Foreign Exchange. Arcos Communications works with a broad spectrum of clients in a variety of industries to create and execute public relations and marketing campaigns that reach the hearts and minds of Latino consumers, as well as other multicultural and premium market segments. In addition to this market focus, Arcos specialty areas include corporate branding and communications, healthcare, financial and social marketing, consumer promotions and special events.

Prior to starting Arcos Communications, Cosme attained extensive public relations and marketing experience promoting programs for Verizon, AT&T, the City of New York and the Epilepsy Foundation of America. His experience extends into the public affairs arena, having served as Special Assistant to the Mayor of the City of New York, and includes strategic planning, policy development, issues management, government relations and program management. He has also spearheaded efforts focused on improving employee relations in the public and private sectors.

His promotional experience is also varied. He has served as co-host of a cable television program to market New York City´s commercial real estate, represented clients in Spanish-language media, produced special events such as benefits and live performance shows, directed the production of video programs and has been active in arts marketing.

Arcos Entertainment, a division of Arcos Communications, was created in 2000, along with Creative Ammo, a nonprofit arts organization, to produce and promote multicultural performing arts projects including the Downtown Urban Theater Festival, now in its ninth season.

Cosme´s experience with Spanish-language, multicultural and general market media, as well as his local and national network among key opinion leaders, affords him and Arcos´ clients access to numerous opportunities. He has worked closely with the National Federation of Hispanic Owned Newspapers, represented New York´s oldest Spanish-language newspaper, el diario/La Prensa and was a co-founding editor for the New York Daily News groundbreaking AIDS Awareness bilingual health supplement. In 2009, he launched Saluciones Health Solutions, the custom health publishing and multi-media production division of Arcos Communications to produce health education materials for the Hispanic market.

Cosme earned his Master in Public Administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Yale University. He maintains membership in a number of professional organizations and serves on local nonprofit boards, including the world-renown Limón Dance Company and BronxWorks. He has also served as a Mayoral appointee on the NYC Workforce Investment Board.

T. Marc Newell
Executive Vice President

T. Marc Newell heads the Administrative and Entertainment divisions at Arcos Communications. The divisions provide a variety of services for clients including market research, marketing, event production and management, and public relations. In this capacity, he has managed projects and campaigns for Aaron Davis Hall, Cherry Lane Theatre, Monroe College, Nuyorican Poets Café and WBGO Jazz 88.

Mr. Newell has over 20 years of experience working with the African-American and Latino community in major cities such as Los Angeles and New York. His background includes the development of government-funded health, education, employment, youth, homeless and faith-based programs to strengthen the low-income communities in the five boroughs of New York. Also, he directed government and community relations for New York City´s homeless services and served as a key liaison to the Boroughs of Manhattan, Bronx and Queens of New York City. In the Los Angeles area, he assisted in the administration on low-income housing assistance programs, mostly in African-American and Hispanic communities.

In 1997, Mr. Newell founded Arcos Entertainment, the entertainment division of Arcos Communications, which he still heads as its vice president. Mr. Newell has a commitment to the successful production, management and promotion of socially responsible events and artists. His division is able to execute all facets of the design and management of events including creative concepts, development, publicity, artist management, promotions, production and evaluation. The division has produced successful benefit events for nonprofit organizations and a variety of critically-acclaimed arts and entertainment events.

Mr. Newell is a California State University graduate where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Newell served as a Board Member of Manhattan Community Board 2 where he was chair of the Arts Committee and vice chair of the Business Committee. Also, he served on an advisory council for former Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields. Currently, he is a member of the Steering Committee of the Arts Advisors to the New York City Council´s Select Committee for Lower Manhattan Redevelopment, Association of Performing Arts Presenters and The Recording Academy.

Dina Albanese
Senior Account Executive

With more than twenty years of experience in communications and public relations, a Master of Arts in Public Relations and a Juris Doctorate, Dina has been successful in designing and implementing creative marketing plans and media campaigns, securing celebrity endorsements, negotiating and ensuring compliance with sponsorships, lobbying, event production and crisis management. She also has a very strong journalism background including newspaper and TV anchoring, reporting and production.

Dina has worked as legal counsel and media consultant for various agencies of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, including her experience as Media Director for a successful political campaign to elect the first woman to become governor of that island. She has been in charge of many marketing, advertising and public relations campaigns and has experience in media training, web content development, speech writing and public affairs.

Dina joined Arcos Communications at the beginning of 2010 and is responsible for account management for Pfizer Helpful Answers, ASPIRA and the Latino Commission on AIDS.

Barbara Berry Whitley
Community Outreach Manager

Barbara Berry Whitley has over 35 years of professional experience in fields ranging from sales and marketing to human resources to education.

Ms. Berry Whitley is currently directing a community outreach program - Pfizer Helpful Answers (PHA) Promotores Outreach Program in five cities in Texas and one in New Mexico. With a focus on the Latino population, the Promotores (Community Health Workers) work, at the grassroots level, in their neighborhoods and communities. Berry Whitley trains the PHA Promotores to educate uninsured or underinsured Latinos about Pfizer Helpful Answers patient assistance programs, other available health care resources as well as on chronic diseases prevalent among Latinos. The program partners with local community based organizations thus building on the established trust and network to enhance the reach of the Promotores and create greater awareness of health issues.

Berry Whitley lived and worked in Central and South America, the Caribbean and Spain for 17 years. She created, owned and operated El Sol and Vista Miramar- companies dedicated to the renovation of designated historic buildings and homes. Her range of experience as the owner included creating an international marketing campaign designed to sale 20+ reonvated buildings to target premium markets.

Upon her return to the United States and for over 12 years, Ms Berry Whitley worked in the area of human resource management for a Fortune 100 Corporation, assuming a variety of responsibilities including succession planning, management training, diversity, community and public relations and benefits. She was the corporation´s representative and intermediary with federal agencies including the US Department of Labor, Occupational Health and Safety Administration, Immigration and Naturalization Service (Homeland Security), the US Food and Drug Administration, and the US Department of Education. Ms Berry Whitley developed, translated and served as instructor for all human resources, health and safety related training in the corporation´s Mexican and Central American operations. Additionally, she served as a lobbyist in several state legislatures and in Washington, DC.

Berry Whitley lived in 6 states, Iran and the Philippines while growing up and currently resides in the North Dallas, TX area. She is a certified Community Health Worker, a SHRM certified Senior Professional Human Resource manager, United Nations trained interpreter, a Berlitz International trained Spanish, English and French Instructor, and a certified English as a Second Language Instructor. She has an Associate of Art degree from the Cleveland Art Institute, a BA and a Masters of Fine Arts from Boston University, a BS in Economics and Finance and a Masters in Education from Arkansas Tech University. She is ABD in a Public Policy doctorial program from the University of North Texas.

Angela Virviescas
Account Coordinator

Angela is a graduated from St. John's University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations and a minor in Journalism. Prior to joining Arcos Communications she was an Account Coordinator at The Bradford Group and provided Hispanic public relations services for Mediashop PR. She previously worked for the Latin Entertainment division of Rogers & Cowan and the publicity & marketing departments of Thames & Hudson.

As an Account Coordinator for Arcos Communications, Angela is responsible for assisting and supporting the team in all aspects of Public Relations, including media pitching. She of Colombian descent and is fluent in Spanish.

Carlos Veloz
Creative Director, Publications

Carlos Veloz has designed for some of the top publications in the field. In his native Dominican Republic, he served as Creative Director for La Nación newspaper and later at Editora Cañabrava, a printing concern where he led a team of 20 designers and oversaw pre-press operations. He would later head up the art department at the El Expreso newspaper (owned by Listín Diario) before moving to New York, where he was Graphic Coordinator for HOY Newspaper´s three dailies based in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Miguel Falquez
Translator and Copywriter

Miguel Falquez is a certified translator and an expert in communicating information that is culturally relevant taking into account the target audience´s nationality or country of origin, acculturation, literacy, and other factors. Miguel´s translation services recognize that conveying a message is often more challenging than the simple word-for-word equivalent. He is a bilingual/bicultural native speaker who possesses special knowledge of specific language and cultural needs. He can either write in a universally accepted language, avoiding words that can only be understood by a particular group, or in a very regional manner in which the specific target audience can feel particularly comfortable with familiar words used by their peers. He also has knowledge and fluency in several professional fields including Medical, Finance, Law and Journalism.

Miguel has a Bachelor´s degree from Hunter College in NYC and is also an acclaimed poet and author.
